Kitchen hacks every 20 year old should know.
Here are a few kitchen hacks that will make your life easier, especially if you are living alone.
- Shopping List
You must prepare a shopping list in advance before going to the grocery or vegetable market. This ensures that you get everything at one go instead of making numerous runs.
- Keep Bananas Fresh
Wrap the stem of the banana bunch with a plastic sheet to keep them fresher for a longer period of time.
- Grilled Cheese Sandwich
If you find yourself craving for a cheese grilled sandwich but do not have a grilling machine, then don’t worry. Simply take a slice of bread and spread some butter and cheese. Then, take your normal bread toaster. Instead of putting it upright, just put it in a sleeping position. Then put your slice horizontally. Viola! Cheese grilled slice is ready!
- Prevent Tears
This is one of the most useful hacks! If you soak your onions for half hour before chopping, then you will find that you won’t be crying when you finally cut them. For people who wear spectacles, wearing lenses while cutting onions also prevents tears.
- Clean as You go
Usually, everyone cleans up only after they have finished cooking. However, if you clean as you go, then you will be done much faster. This process also makes the kitchen space less chaotic and speeds up the cooking process as well.
- Make Breakfast the Night Before
If your mornings are rushed, then making breakfast the night before is a good option. There are various things such as oats or granola that can be soaked in milk with dry fruits. This makes for a healthy option rather than frozen or junk food.
- Rush the Ripening
Wrapping fruits in a newspaper and putting them in a closed cabinet fastens the ripening process.
- Ginger tea
If you are a fan of ginger tea, then you will know that grating ginger every morning can be a pain. To avoid this, simply take 500 gms of ginger, wash it thoroughly (this is extremely important) and then grate it at one go. Store this grated ginger in the freezer and use a bit daily.
- Determine the Freshness of an Egg
This is one of the popular hacks. If you are unsure about the freshness of your egg, then put it in a bowl of water. Since eggs are porous, they absorb air over time. Thus, if the egg sinks and falls on its side, it is fresh. If it sinks but is upright, then it is just a little old. If it floats, it is stale and should be thrown away.
- Squeezed Lime
Store your USED lime wedges in the fridge. Keep one used lime in your cooker everytime you use it. This will prevent the base from blackening and ensure that it is as good as new even after years of use. The used lime wedges can also be used to clean your kitchen sink and to get rid of any lingering food smells.
These kitchen hacks will surely save up a lot of time in the kitchen.
